The reasons your people are not motivated is not what you may think. I There are three major reasons and the number one reason is the media!
The media's constant 24 hour chaos coverage is destroying the hopes and dreams of mankind and is the main culprit why you find your people not motivated today. The media has a greater commitment to filling your people's heads with negativity than you have in giving them hope, motivation and solutions. I fear…

as published in The Intelligencer
An open letter to Barack Obama, president of the United States of America, and Frederick Henderson, chief executive officer, General Motors Corp.:
On behalf of our 1,500 employees in southeastern Pennsylvania, I ask for your help to ensure that GM's bankruptcy does not cost our families their livelihood.
In 1959, I opened a two-bay service station in Yardley, Pennsylvania, with $1,200 and a…

Many dealers are beginning to look to new marketing outlets as more traditional mass media options become less effective and more cost prohibitive. Social Media is alluring as it is inexpensive to get started and there are a lot of success stories popping up of dealerships gaining market share and improving sales using the new media.
Social Media may be "cheap" in the actual checkbook sense. Facebook is free, YouTube is free, Twitter is free (for now), etc. But there are high costs…

Anyone remember the Ford Auto Collection? Ford paid stupid money for dealerships, flooded the sales floor with salespeople, filled the lots with inventory, pumped the advertising WAY UP and look what happened, they FAILED. Why?
Commissions, advertising and floor plan represent the 3 largest expenses in most sales departments. Regardless of any "anticipations", these numbers MUST be controlled (along with all other expenses). Sales, grosses, expenses and inventories must be…

An article in the latest issue of Automotive News states GM plans to close 100's or Cadillac dealers nationwide. I know for a fact of one decades old area Cadillac store that has always performed to standards that was given notice and I'm sure there are many more.
GM's reluctance to publish a "list" is not for the dealers benefit I assure you, rather it is policical posturing for the upcoming BK hearings. I've not heard any grass roots uprising amoung the GM dealers, has anyone?

Breaking news. It looks like the work of a few is adding up.
Read this as it develops
The U.S. Supreme Court grants a request to put on hold Chrysler's sale to a group led by Italy's Fiat.
Indiana pension funds and consumer groups had asked the Supreme Court on Sunday to stop the sale of Chrysler LLC to Fiat while they challenge the deal.
The request, which moved the legal battle to the…

There are so many issues with this - If the "rules" for compensation for companies taking government money had been written better in the beginning they wouldn't be addressing this to begin with. But as with many government initiatives they write in the most ambiguous language possible then make it fit later. I am not for a moment saying that some executives weren't making the most of their situations and taking compensation beyond what their bottom line dictated but is that their fault or the…

Eldon Palmer was preparing for a grand opening of his upgraded Chrysler dealership -- a $3.2 million project he pursued at the automaker's urging -- when the letter came.
In formal language that seemed to belie their 52-year business relationship, Chrysler informed Palmer that his Indiana dealership, along with another he runs, would be among the 789 dropped as the ...

SYRACUSE, NY – XpressCredit, provider of a web-based, indirect lending platform announced today their integration with Carfax to provide Vehicle History Reports to its network of dealers and lenders across the country.
“Recent studies prove that Carfax Vehicle History Reports build consumer confidence and help dealers sell cars faster,” said Larry Gamache, communications director at Carfax. “Readily available access to Carfax Reports is key to boosting used…

As I watched the Senate hearings today on CSPAN my blood boiled. When asked about the money they would save by cutting their dealer count these guys, Henderson and Press, engaged in some serious obfuscation. They asserted that by swapping an "under performing" dealer for a "performing dealer" they would pick up the gross profit of the additional sales of the new "performing" dealer. These calculations of the difference between what they got and what they felt they were entitled to makes up the…

Give whoever came up with this headline a big pat on the back.
This from the MyFox Boston Web site -
"Missing Baby Found in Sandwich" The story does have a happy ending for the Baby, can't say the same for the father involved.
Feel free to add your own. We all need something to smile about some days.

Hopefully the American people realize that they have a financial interest in General Motors and Chrysler due to the loans that the US government has loaned out to both companies with upto 60% ownership. With that being said, and coming to the realization that both companies are here to stay for the long term, we need to support our tax dollars and both of these companies.

Today, June 2nd, was the day that 5969 dealers received FedEx packages of either good news, a Participation Agreement (OK, it's not-so-bad-news, your franchise agreement may be renewed), or bad news, a Wind-Down agreement and payment of some monies to help you liquidate your inventories.
My phone started ringing early this morning. Five friends/clients all with at least one Wind-Down, and some with Participation Agreements. Shortly after the calls I had copies of the agreements…

Harley Davidson had a 4 times larger market cap than GM, based on the stock price just before Chapter 11. Does anyone think that stock value is representative of a revitalized low cost GM in a 15 million SAAR, 15% market share, low fuel price market? There could be a good argument made that buying GM stock after they reemerge from BK could be the equivalent of buying a good company at an IPO price. No guarantees of the low fuel price, but I'd bet on the 15% market share and 15 million SAAR…

The results you get don't come from the situation. The
results you achieve are determined by what you choose to
focus upon and what you choose to do.
From the very same set of circumstances, two different
people can achieve two vastly different results. The outcome
is not based on what they're given, but on what they do with
it.
If the results you're getting are not the results you
desire, stop looking for someone or something to…

I can't find the original blog entry from a few weeks ago that was posted. It was a letter from a dealer that was put up here and a link for us to forward it to Congress and President Obama. Well, here's what I got back from Sen. Bill Nelson Of Florida! All I can say is "WOW". I am very dissapointed in the lack of concern he shows. The slam about the tax payer assistance is a joke. The only thing he mentions is Dealerships and manufacturing jobs..guess he forgot about everyone else related to…

I wondered how the Treasury, the bankruptcy courts and the "New" GM were going to dance around bankruptcy law. You see, in bankruptcy, you can accept a contract, or reject a contract, but not modify a contract.
The announcement GM's made at their noon press conference certainly sounded more favorable for the 1124 dealers that were notified two weeks ago that their franchise agreements would not be renewed in October 2010. Fritz Henderson called the 17 month wind-down period an…

Kudos to GM. At least for now. While they have indeed filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection, GM stated they intend to allow dealers that have been informed their franchises will not be renewed, as well as between 200 and 400 additional dealers yet to be notified of the same fate, to work through an orderly phase out of their franchises over the next 18 months.
That is the good news. The bad news is that Chrysler had intended the same thing and had asked the bankruptcy court to…
