I've always thought sales people should make analogies between sex and selling. Without a little foreplay you probably won't go too far and if you do, it won't be too rewarding for either party!

Look at every conversation as an investment, not a cost.

I guess you could take the ultimate shortcut and just ask them, "Are you going to buy something or are you just wasting my time?" Run a bureau before you do any product presentation. Get to the price and close as soon as possible. And if you practice this advice in your personal life, you'll have the love life of a eunuch.

Lin beat me to the point. You can never tell what is in a man's pocket until you put your hand in it. In other words, the person wasting your time today may be the person who needs a car or your service next month. They may have a friend or relative who is in the market, but they are afraid to go to the dealership themselves to battle the Black Knight car dealer.

Talk to one and all, sure you may waste your time today but 45 mins today may equal 4500.00 profit tomorrow. I cannot see into my future but I can see where I was mistaken in the past.

Easy put shades in the window and a very large dog on the lot. Hey Just joking.

I think people look at you as a very wise person. Who knows if your wasting time. The people you are talking to they maybe the person who sends a buyer to you down the road. I remember back in Maine I worked for a dealer in Skowhegan. It sold Pontiac and GMC trucks. I remember this ruff looking guy talking to a few sales people for a couple of days this went on. I walked up to him and asked if I could help. He was hard to understand because he had lost most of his teeth. But I found out that he worked in the woods and his boss wanted him to check out a cherry picker truck. That is a Truck with a big claw on the back that picks up logs and puts them on a flat bed truck. Well he sent his boss to see me. The boss walked up and said I need to talk to Lin. He then told me his worker, which was his foreman needs a new truck. He told me the guy that I had been talking was his Forman to show him the truck he was looking at. I did and the guys said get it ready we will take it. No question on price he just bought it. So I talk to anyone buyer or non-buyer because that stops me from picking who is a buyer and wh ois not. No pre judging makes me a better sales person.
